ASU Prep Poly came tearing into Tuesday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 51-43 win over Mission Heights Prep.
ASU Prep Poly was led to victory by Ashton Turner and CJ Welcome. Turner dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 steals, while Welcome scored 26 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Welcome has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Elijah Muhammad, who scored nine points along with four steals.
Several Phantoms players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Daniel Thompson, who scored eight points.
ASU Prep Poly has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Mission Heights Prep, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-5.
ASU Prep Poly will head out on the road to challenge Heritage Academy Gateway at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Heritage Academy Gateway knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matches -- so hopefully ASU Prep Poly likes a good challenge. As for Mission Heights Prep, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Western SciTech at 5:00 p.m. on January 24th. Western SciTech will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 288th, while Mission Heights Prep is ranked 129th).
