The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Oak Ridge Military Academy came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 47th, while Durham Academy is ranked 216th).
Durham Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from JJ Wilcox, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds. Joshua Dorsette II was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
Oak Ridge Military Academy's loss ended a eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 24-4. As for Durham Academy, their win bumped their record up to 12-10.
