Meanwhile, Mater Dei Catholic struggled with assists on Wednesday (Otay Ranch had 11 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Mater Dei Catholic fell to Otay Ranch 52-46. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Mater Dei Catholic came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 205th, while Otay Ranch is ranked 439th).
Despite the defeat, Mater Dei Catholic got a solid performance out of Maseyo Elliott, who scored 16 points along with two steals. Elliott's trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for four games straight. Another player making a difference was Sebastian Wiles, who scored ten points.
The win makes it two in a row for Bonita Vista and bumps their season record up to 13-11. As for Mater Dei Catholic, they dropped their record down to 12-11 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road.
