The Cocoa Tigers waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with four straight wins but they left with five. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Cocoa Beach 67-23 on the road. Given Cocoa's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 156th, while Cocoa Beach is ranked 438th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cocoa to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jonise Barcene, who scored 13 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Barcene has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Gianna Conklin-Jones, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, Cocoa Beach still got an impressive performance from AJ Overdorf, who scored 11 points.
Cocoa is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 11-7 record this season. As for Cocoa Beach, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-8.
Cocoa will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Edgewood at 7:00 p.m. Edgewood's defense has only allowed 28.9 points per game this season, so Cocoa's offense will have their work cut out for them. Cocoa Beach will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Space Coast at 5:30 p.m. on January 18th.
