Elgin and Tree of Life Christian squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Elgin had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 3-2. The Comets' defeat signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.
Elgin took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The final score came out to 21-25, 25-18, 21-25, 25-21, 15-10.
Kadence Gear paced Elgin's offense, picking up 16 kills. Gear got some help from Kendra Appelfeller and her 18 assists. Jordan Wall controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.
Tree of Life Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Mimi Cochran out in front who had 11 digs and two aces. Cochran is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 12 or more in each of the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Megan Donnally, who had 22 assists and ten digs.
Elgin's loss dropped their record down to 18-5. As for Tree of Life Christian, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 17-8.
Elgin does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Tree of Life Christian, they will square off against Newark Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
