After flying high against the Nunamiut Amaguq on Thursday, the Tikigaq Harpooners came back down to earth. Tikigaq fell 65-58 to the Eagles on Friday. While losing is never fun, Tikigaq can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while the Eagles are ranked fifth).
Scammon Bay's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Stewie Sundown, who scored 20 points along with four steals. Sundown hasn't dropped below three steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Sundown, who scored 16 points along with three steals.
Tikigaq's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 3-13. As for Scammon Bay, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-3.
Tikigaq does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Scammon Bay and the Amaguq will face off at 4:30 p.m. on January 27th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Nunamiut knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six games -- so hopefully the Eagles like a good challenge.
