Varela is 9-1 against Coral Park since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Varela Vipers will be staying on the road to face off against the Coral Park Rams at 3:30 p.m. on December 15th. Varela's defense has only allowed 24.9 points per game this season, so Coral Park's offense will have their work cut out for Coral Park.
Last Wednesday, Varela didn't have too much trouble with Hialeah on the road as they won 38-24.
Varela's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Leia Vanterpool led the charge by scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds. Alyssa Azcuy was another key contributor, scoring four points along with seven steals.
Even though Coral Park has not done well against South Miami recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Everything went Coral Park's way against South Miami as Coral Park made off with a 48-26 victory. The victory was just what Coral Park needed coming off of a 56-19 loss in their prior matchup.
Varela is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. As for Coral Park, their victory ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-3.
Everything came up roses for Varela against Coral Park in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 as the team secured a 48-20 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Varela since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
