The Oklahoma Union Cougars will face off against the Caney Valley Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Oklahoma Union is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Oklahoma Union's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Pawhuska as Oklahoma Union made off with an 11-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.
The team relied heavily on Jake Harris, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Nathan Dean, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Oklahoma Union always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pawhuska only posted an OBP of .188.
Meanwhile, Caney Valley earned an 8-4 victory over Hominy on Friday.
Logan Horsman and Bryor Bonde made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Horsman struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Meanwhile, Bonde tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Those eight strikeouts gave Horsman a new career-high. At bat, Horsman scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3, while Bonde scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Preston Gipson and Logan Thompson did most of the damage at the plate: Gipson scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3, while Thompson went 3-for-4 with four RBI. Caidyn Kyler was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Caney Valley's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Oklahoma Union, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
Oklahoma Union was able to grind out a solid win over Caney Valley in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 10-6. Will Oklahoma Union repeat their success, or does Caney Valley have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
