Softball Recap: Harper Creek Makes It Six in a Row at Home

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Harper Creek and Pennfield have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Thursday. The Beavers blew past the Panthers 13-2. The result was nothing new for the Beavers, who have now won nine matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Aleena Stahlhood made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Stahlhood was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 contests.

In other batting news, Harper Creek got a massive performance out of Kennedy Halverson, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles Halverson has posted since back in May of 2024. Kaylee Kirkpatrick was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Harper Creek kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive games.

Harper Creek pushed their record up to 12-8 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Pennfield, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

Harper Creek has already played their next match (against Grand Ledge), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Pennfield will be paying especially close attention to the Beavers' contest: after the Beavers face off against the Comets, they'll take on Pennfield again at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
