It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Potomac Wolverines had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They skirted past Gwynn Park 17-14. The win was nothing new for Potomac as they're now sitting on four straight.
Marshawn Perry threw for 155 yards and a touchdown. Raymon Lewis was his top target, picking up 82 receiving yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Mekhi Lewis rushed for 55 yards.
Defeat or not, Gwynn Park got some senior leadership from Romero Lavalais jr. who rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries and Chauncey Wright who rushed for 46 yards and a touchdown.
Potomac's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-10 Thomas Stone and 3-7 Fairmont Heights (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 34.2% over those games). As for Gwynn Park, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-4.
Potomac will face off against Huntingtown at TBD on Friday. Huntingtown presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Potomac in Maryland (Huntingtown is ranked 26th, while Potomac is ranked 107th). Gwynn Park does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
