St. John is 0-10 against the Eagles since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The St. John's Islanders will head out on the road to square off against the Military Magnet Academy Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
St. John's entered their tilt with the NaviGators with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. St. John's took their contest on the road on Wednesday with ease, bagging a 50-17 win over the NaviGators.
St. John's got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Daeshia Buford out in front who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten steals. Buford is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least four every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jasmyne Robinson, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Military Magnet Academy stacked a 14th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They breezed by Burke at home to the tune of 70-39. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Military Magnet Academy had established a 21 point advantage.
Military Magnet Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dream Watson, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. Watson hasn't dropped below two steals for 12 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Willis, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
St. John's now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Military Magnet Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.
Tuesday's matchup is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: St. John's have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 39.8% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Military Magnet Academy struggles in that department as they've made 38.8% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
St. John's was taken down by the Eagles 107-20 when the teams last played back in January. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point St. John's was down 46-10.
