The Wilmer-Hutchins Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Anna Coyotes at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wilmer-Hutchins is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Last Friday, Wilmer-Hutchins suffered a rough 37-12 defeat at the hands of Carter. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Wilmer-Hutchins in their matchups with Carter: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite their loss, Wilmer-Hutchins saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jacob Cummings, who rushed for 140 yards while picking up 7.8 yards per carry, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Tamajae Mcmillon, who rushed for 57 yards and a touchdown on only five carries.
Meanwhile, Anna entered their tilt with Sulphur Springs with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Anna strolled past Sulphur Springs with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 30-16. Given Anna's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 85th, while Sulphur Springs is ranked 280th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ziondre Williams was his usual excellent self, throwing for 150 yards and three touchdowns, while also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Williams has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. George Rogers also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
With Wilmer-Hutchins' defeat and Carter's win, both teams now sport identical 7-3 records.
