The Avella Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Jefferson-Morgan Rockets at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Avella is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
Avella pushed their score all the way to 57 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 79-57 walloping at the hands of Union Area. Avella has struggled against Union Area recently, as their match on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Avella had strong showings from Westley Burchianti, who scored 19 points, and Bryce Wright, who scored 17 points.
Meanwhile, Jefferson-Morgan scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They were the clear victor by a 70-50 margin over Geibel Catholic. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Jefferson-Morgan has posted yet this season.
Jefferson-Morgan found their leader in underclassman Dayten Marion, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. Marion is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of John Woodward, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Avella's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Jefferson-Morgan, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-6.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Avella hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 57.6 points per game. It's a different story for Jefferson-Morgan, though, as they've been averaging only 47.2 points per game. The only thing between Avella and another offensive beatdown is Jefferson-Morgan. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Avella came out on top in a nail-biter against Jefferson-Morgan in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, sneaking past 47-44. The rematch might be a little tougher for Avella since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
