Maine South is a perfect 3-0 against Maine West since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Hawks will head out on the road to face off against the Warriors at 10:30 a.m. Maine South is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Maine South had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Highland Park on Tuesday. The Hawks never let the Giants get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The Hawks not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 3rd (when they won 14-4).
Sibelle Stevens tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Christina Piotrowski and Aubrey Mazza did most of the damage at the plate: Piotrowski went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Mazza went 1-for-2 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Peyton Santore, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Maine South kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Highland Park only managed one hit.
Meanwhile, Maine West had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They walked away with a 4-0 victory over the Cougars.
The result came thanks to KAITLYN MARSH's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up 12 Ks. Those 12 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, ABIGAYLE GARCIA was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. SAMMI MATTSON also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Maine West pushed their record up to 11-1 with the win, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Maine South, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-7 record this season.
Both Maine South and Maine West just can't seem to miss. The Hawks have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Maine West struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Maine South took their win against Maine West in their previous meeting back in April of 2021 by a conclusive 10-3 score. Will the Hawks repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
