The Queensbury Spartans will take on the Columbia Blue Devils at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Queensbury is coming into the contest hot, having won their last ten games.
Queensbury is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They never let Bethlehem Central get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory.
Not much got past Lillian Smith, who gave up just five hits to keep Bethlehem Central off the board. Smith has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 15 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Norah Hunt, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Columbia faced Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Blue Devils walked away with a 3-0 win over the Spartans. The victory continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won four in a row.
The result came thanks to Sophia Galligan's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 12 Ks.
At the plate, Madison Marr was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Columbia's win bumped their record up to 15-2-1. As for Queensbury, their victory bumped their record up to 18-3.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Queensbury has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Columbia struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Queensbury suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Columbia in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
