Altoona hasn't had much luck against Central recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Mountain Lions will host the Dragons at 11:00 a.m.
Altoona is headed into Saturday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Wednesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Mifflin County.
Altoona saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Natalie Baker, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Mary Worley also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Central). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Greater Johnstown a 16-0 shutout on Thursday. The Dragons haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Kailyn Gahagan made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Alexis Fetzer was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Aubrey Rhodes was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greater Johnstown only managed four hits.
Altoona's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Central, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 4-7.
Altoona might still be hurting after the 8-1 loss they got from Central in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Mountain Lions have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
