Golden City's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jamison Menadue, who posted 16 points in addition to five assists and four steals, and Spencer Parrill, who went 6 of 13 en route to 15 points and seven rebounds. The game was Menadue's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Robby Stafford, who put up four points and five boards.
Even though they lost, Golden City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Jefferson Independent Day can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They breezed by Exeter to the tune of 72-28. The Cavaliers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 20 points or more this season.
Jefferson Independent Day's win came from a few key players Golden City will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jack Twiss, who went 7 for 12 on his way to 18 points and eight steals. He has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. Kohl Thurman was another key player, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Golden City's defeat dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Jefferson Independent Day, their win bumped their record up to 11-9.
Friday's game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Menadue and Twiss. Menadue has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 19.7 points, 3.6 steals, and 3.4 assists. For his part, Twiss has averaged 20.8 points, 2.9 steals, and 3.2 assists.
Golden City beat Jefferson Independent Day 77-70 in their previous matchup last Thursday. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Twiss, who went 11 of 27 en route to 32 points along with six boards and six steals.
