Grayslake Central hasn't had much luck against Wauconda recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Rams will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bulldogs at 4:45 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Saturday, Grayslake Central came up short against Buffalo Grove and fell 18-15.
Kate Davies was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Emma Andrews was another key player, going 4-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Wauconda entered their tilt with Lake Zurich on Saturday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 12-11 W against the Bears. That's two games straight that the Bulldogs have won by just one run.
Alyssa Threde was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellary Nick, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.
Wauconda was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .436. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .379 or higher in four consecutive matches.
Wauconda's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-22. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Grayslake Central, their loss dropped their record down to 11-13.
Wauconda's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Grayslake Central has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11 hits per game. It's a different story for Wauconda, though, as they've been averaging 10 hits. Given Grayslake Central's sizable advantage in that area, the Bulldogs will need to find a way to close that gap.
Grayslake Central came out on top in a nail-biter against Wauconda in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 12-10. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
