The Elk Lake Warriors will venture away from home to take on the Honesdale Hornets at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Elk Lake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Elk Lake will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Thursday, then bounced right back against Forest City on Monday. The Warriors put the hurt on the Foresters with a sharp 14-4 win. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Foresters recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Braydon McMicken was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Dawson Sherman was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Matthias Morris, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Elk Lake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .676. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Honesdale's offense. They lost 6-0 to Mid Valley on Monday.
Honesdale's defeat dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Elk Lake, their record now sits at 13-3.
Honesdale's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Elk Lake hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .361. It's a different story for Honesdale, though, as they've only averaged .225. Will they be able to contain Elk Lake's hitters?
Elk Lake might still be hurting after the 16-10 loss they got from Honesdale when the teams last played back in April of 2021. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
