After flying high against the Nederland Panthers last Saturday, the Cripple Creek-Victor Pioneers came back down to earth. Cripple Creek-Victor took a 65-50 bruising from Denver Academy on Saturday. Cripple Creek-Victor has not had much luck with Denver Academy recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Cripple Creek-Victor lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Myles Durham, who scored 22 points. Durham continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Tony Woods, who scored 11 points.
Denver Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Nolan Monasch out in front who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Monasch has scored at least a third of Denver Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Allen, who scored 21 points along with three steals.
Cripple Creek-Victor has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Denver Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cripple Creek-Victor's road trip will continue as they head out to face Custer County at 6:00 p.m. on January 15th. Hopefully Custer County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday. As for Denver Academy, they will head out on the road to challenge Dayspring Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
