The Tolleson Wolverines will head out to challenge the Millennium Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Tolleson has eight straight victories, Millennium has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Tolleson had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Casteel on Monday. Tolleson put the hurt on Casteel with a sharp 17-7 win. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.
Tolleson got a great performance from Mayrin Acuna as she pitched six innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits.
At the plate, Tolleson let Marina Lara and Jada Rubalcava run wild. Lara fired off two home runs, eight RBI, and one double while going 3-for-5, while Rubalcava scored five runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. That's the most hits Rubalcava has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Dani Chairez, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Tolleson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .459. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .316 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Millennium lost 14-3 to Horizon on Wednesday.
Charlotte Apodaca made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Taylor Sparks, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Tolleson pushed their record up to 8-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Millennium, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
Millennium's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Tolleson has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Millennium, though, as they've been averaging 11.6 hits. Given Tolleson's sizable advantage in that area, Millennium will need to find a way to close that gap.
Tolleson came up short against Millennium when the teams last played back in April of 2018, falling 8-3. Can Tolleson avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
