Greencastle is 8-1 against South Vermillion since January of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Greencastle Tiger Cubs will head out on the road to face off against the South Vermillion Wildcats at 2:30 p.m. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Greencastle's 23-5 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They lost to Sullivan on the road by a decisive 53-34 margin on Friday. While losing is never fun, Greencastle can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 317th, while Sullivan is ranked 66th).
The losing side was boosted by Evelyn Briones, who scored 15 points along with three steals. She hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. Another player making a difference was Bailey Brown, who scored three points.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to South Vermillion, who are still winless after their 12th matchup. They had to suffer through a rough 51-11 loss at the hands of Cloverdale. That's two games in a row now that South Vermillion has lost by exactly 40 points.
Greencastle has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. As for South Vermillion, their defeat was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-12.
Everything came up roses for Greencastle against South Vermillion in their previous matchup back in January as the team secured a 63-12 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Greencastle since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
