The St. Paul Wildcats had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They breezed by Gibbon on the road to the tune of 60-22. With St. Paul ahead 33-7 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Natalie Poss was the offensive standout of the game as she scored 15 points along with 5 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracie Kelley, who scored 11 points along with 8 rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Gibbon lost on Thursday, one person who can't be blamed is Carla Murillo-Corona. Despite the final result, she scored 17 points along with 6 rebounds and 6 blocks.
St. Paul's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Gibbon, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Paul will take on Doniphan-Trumbull at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Doniphan-Trumbull focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday. Gibbon won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Central City at 6:15 p.m. on December 1st.
