The North Cross Raiders waltzed into their match on Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. They claimed a resounding 83-53 win over Randolph-Macon Academy at home. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 19 more assists than your opponent, as North Cross did.
Leading North Cross to victory were Jesiah Hines and Antonio Mack. Hines shot 5-for-7 from downtown and almost dropped a double-double on 29 points and nine assists, while Mack scored 37 points along with five assists and two steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Hines has scored at least a third of North Cross' points. Nate Hayes was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Despite the loss, Randolph-Macon Academy still got an impressive performance from Bilal Kebbay, who scored 24 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Kebbay hasn't dropped below two steals for nine straight games. Another player making a difference was Johnathan Doku, who scored eight points along with five assists and five steals.
North Cross pushed their record up to 12-12 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.7 points per game. As for Randolph-Macon Academy, their defeat ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 15-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Cross will challenge Eastern Mennonite at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Randolph-Macon Academy, they will head out on the road to take on Wakefield School at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Wakefield School focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 last Thursday.
