Basketball Recap: Claire Lutter Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Douglas County West

There's no place like home for Wayne, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They came out on top against the Douglas County West Falcon by a score of 48-35 on Saturday.

Wayne's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Claire Lutter, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. That's the most points Lutter has posted since back in January of 2024. Haley Kramer was another key player, going 6 for 11 on her way to 16 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Wayne smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Douglas County West only pulled down four offensive rebounds.

Despite the loss, Douglas County West still got an impressive performance from Ava Grimm, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 16 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Strong, who posted eight points.

Wayne's win bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Douglas County West, they dropped their record down to 2-7 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

When Wayne and Douglas County West next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Wayne will try to stop Guardian Angels Central Catholic's four-game winning streak when the meet at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, Douglas County West will try to stop Logan View/Scribner-Snyder's four-game winning streak when the meet at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
