Basketball Recap: Rock Academy Comes Up Short

Rock Academy lost against Point Loma back in November of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Rock Academy Warriors had to suffer through a 84-43 loss at the hands of the Point Loma Pointers. The Warriors were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 48-24.

When it comes to explaining why Rock Academy lost, don't look at James Whitley. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. Those 12 rebounds gave Whitley a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Roland Balderramos, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 13 points.

Point Loma's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Na'Sean Hardy led the charge by dropping a double-double on 13 points and 12 boards. Hardy is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Andrew Washington was another key player, putting up 12 points, to go along with five assists and five boards.

Rock Academy is on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4. As for Point Loma, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-1.

Rock Academy will take on Classical Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Rock Academy is facing Classical Academy at the right time seeing as Classical Academy is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Point Loma, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Escondido Charter at 7:00 p.m. Point Loma has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
