Shelby is a perfect 4-0 against Bessemer City since October of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Golden Lions will look to defend their home field against the Yellow Jackets at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Shelby's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last six contests.
On Friday, Shelby humbled East Gaston with a 42-6 victory. With the Golden Lions ahead 28-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Lan Farmer was his usual excellent self, throwing for 300 yards and six TDs on only 19 passes. Shelby is undefeated when Farmer posts three or more passing touchdowns, but 0-3 otherwise. The Golden Lions' leading receiver Jamarion Jj Williams was Farmer's top target yet again, picking up 130 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Bessemer City was not able to break out of their rough patch last Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 15-12 heartbreaker at the hands of Highland Tech. Despite 103 more yards than the Rams, the Yellow Jackets couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Shelby will have to contain Gavin Chastain as he made an impact in Bessemer City's last game. He threw for 182 yards and one TD, and also rushed for 30 yards and one score.
Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 2.2 yards per carry. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Bessemer City; they were averaging 3.6yards per carry per game earlier this season, but in their last three matchups they've fallen to only 0 per game.
Shelby has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 14.0 points on average over those games. As for Bessemer City, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.
Everything came up roses for Shelby against Bessemer City in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 49-0 win. Will the Golden Lions repeat their success, or do the Yellow Jackets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
