O'Connor has been on the road for two straight, but on Saturday they'll finally head home. They will be home for the holidays to greet the Harlan Hawks at 1:30 p.m. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
O'Connor pushed their score all the way to 55 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 64-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of Jay.
O'Connor's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Casey Chavez, who scored 19 points along with 5 assists, and Mary Loeffler who scored 13 points. Chavez scored a full 34.5% of O'Connor's points, the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Simone Pryor, who scored 13 points along with 3 steals.
Meanwhile, Harlan was beaten by Brennan 59-28 on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Harlan can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 204th, while Brennan is ranked 24th).
O'Connor has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season. As for Harlan, they now have a losing record at 7-8.
O'Connor was dealt a bruising 60-23 defeat at the hands of Harlan when the teams last played back in January. Can O'Connor avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
