Millbrook is 10-0 against Wakefield since December of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Millbrook Wildcats will host the Wakefield Wolverines at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Wakefield will be up against a hot Millbrook team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Millbrook sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 63-61 win over Rolesville on Friday. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while the Rams are ranked 239th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Ashton King and Caiden Jenkins. King had a great game and went 10 of 16 en route to 36 points and eight rebounds. Meanwhile, Jenkins was balling out in the loss, going 9 for 15 on his way to 28 points and seven boards.
Meanwhile, Wakefield posted their biggest victory since December 12, 2023 on Friday. They breezed by Wake Forest to the tune of 78-50. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wolverines.
Wakefield's win came from a few key players Millbrook will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Avery Hicks, who went 5 of 6 en route to 16 points and five rebounds. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bishop Dudley, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine assists.
Wakefield's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.4 points per game. As for Millbrook, their victory bumped their record up to 7-9.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Millbrook and Wakefield are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Millbrook hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 65.8 points per game. However, it's not like Wakefield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 57.1 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Millbrook beat Wakefield 60-53 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Does Millbrook have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wakefield turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
