It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Kaiser Cats had no problem doing just that on Friday. They slipped by Los Osos 50-49. The victory was nothing new for Kaiser as they're now sitting on six straight.
Kiyel Tyler got back to being his usual excellent self, as he rushed for 317 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 12.7 yards per carry. Tyler was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 65 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Marshall Jr, who rushed for 121 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries.
When it comes to explaining why Los Osos lost, one person who can't be blamed is Mason Overacker. Despite the final result, he rushed for 138 yards and four touchdowns on only 13 carries, and also threw for 267 yards and three touchdowns. Overacker is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Nathan Castro was another key contributor, picking up 91 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Kaiser pushed their record up to 9-3 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of three points across that stretch. As for Los Osos, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
Kaiser will be playing at home against Santa Monica at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Santa Monica will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last. Los Osos does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
