The Lawrence County Cougars will take on the Heritage Academy Patriots at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lawrence County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
Lawrence County barely beat McComb the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Lawrence County put the hurt on McComb with a sharp 16-1 win on Friday. The Cougars have beaten the Tigers the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Tigers has come to flipping the script.
Caden Case made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Lawrence County is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 2-4 otherwise. Case was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Josh Sandifer, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Grey Boyd, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Lawrence County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .655. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Heritage Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of St. Stanislaus. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Patriots have suffered since February 8, 2024.
Heritage Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adyn Westmoreland, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Kaden Avery also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Lawrence County's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Heritage Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Lawrence County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .488. However, it's not like Heritage Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .431. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
