Hamilton County is 0-3 against the Lions since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Hamilton County Foxes' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Carterville Lions at 6:00 p.m. on February 5th. Hamilton County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 358th, while the Lions are ranked 75th).
Last Saturday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Hamilton County beat the Panthers 49-43.
Hamilton County found their leader in underclassman Rayci Phelps, who scored 17 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Phelps has scored at least a third of Hamilton County's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kalin Nichols, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Carterville over the Red Devils in every quarter on their way to victory on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Carterville blew the Red Devils out of the water with a 68-10 final score. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 47-4.
Hamilton County's win bumped their record up to 13-15. As for Carterville, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-6.
Hamilton County suffered a grim 49-29 defeat to the Lions in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Hamilton County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
