The Florence Gophers suffered their biggest loss since December 6, 2023 on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Coolidge, falling 71-39. While losing is never fun, Florence can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while Coolidge is ranked 82nd).
Despite the loss, Florence still got an impressive performance from Keylee Scarbrough, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds. That was a full 38.5% of Florence's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Laila Bryan was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Coolidge was led to victory by Alaysia White and Naylissa Charles. White dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds, while Charles scored 30 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Charles has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Amaira Miguel, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Florence has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Coolidge, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Florence will square off against Globe at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for Globe and three for Florence. As for Coolidge, they will head out on the road to square off against San Tan Foothills at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The timing isn't great for San Tan Foothills: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Coolidge has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
