The New Bern Bears won the last time they faced the Havelock Rams, and things went their way on Friday too. New Bern walked away with a 62-53 victory over Havelock. Given New Bern's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 169th, while Havelock is ranked 355th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
New Bern's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordan Hawkins, who scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zymari Buck, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Several Rams players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Chris Strong, who scored 16 points. Strong hasn't dropped below 15 points for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Jalen Morgan, who scored 17 points.
New Bern is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Havelock, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Bern will challenge J.H. Rose at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully J.H. Rose focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday. As for Havelock, they will head out on the road to face off against South Central at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. South Central will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
