It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Cypress Centurions can now relate to. They received a tough blow on Friday as they fell 45-27 to Mira Costa.
Several Centurions players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jesse Mauldin, who rushed for 113 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Mauldin's longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards. Bobby Castillo also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Leading Mira Costa to victory were Reese Leonard and Nico De La Cruz. Leonard picked up 252 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while De La Cruz threw for 400 yards and five touchdowns. Charlie O'connor did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 62 receiving yards.
Cypress' defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Mira Costa, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-7.
Cypress does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Mira Costa will head out on the road to face off against Murrieta Mesa at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Murrieta Mesa is ranked 111th, while Mira Costa is ranked 122nd).
