5A Region III District 19 recap October 29, 2013
Katy extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region III District 19 this week by beating Strake Jesuit, 49-7. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.
Mayde Creek scaled the state rankings by moving to 737 from 775 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Rams were able to move up by losing to Morton Ranch 45-10.
Katy's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Kiley Huddleston threw for 154 and 2 touchdowns and Logan Otte had 87 yards receiving. On the ground Kyle Porter contributed 206 yards. Tony Mullins helped Katy's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 42 yards.
Gary Joseph's team's dynamic duo of Huddleston and Otte proved tough for the Crusaders to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Mullins helped Katy's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 42 yards.
Porter was a passing and rushing force as the Tigers bested Strake Jesuit. Porter's key target this week was Otte, who caught 5 passes for 87 yards.
James Clancy's team's Colby Chapman and Christian McStravick have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Chapman has thrown for 1,658 yards this season, while McStravick has 44 catches for 723 yards. Porter from Katy leads the league in rushing with 1,067 yards.
The top two teams in 5A Region III District 19 will face off this week when first place Katy takes on second place Cinco Ranch. The Tigers bested the Crusaders last week, while Cinco Ranch beat Seven Lakes.
There should be lots of points scored when Katy and the Cougars face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Tigers comes in having scored 307 this season, while Cinco Ranch has scored 232. Katy scored 49 points last week as it topped Strake Jesuit.
The Crusaders lost to the Tigers 49-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Chapman threw for 109 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 16 yards in the defeat.
