Basketball Recap: Cornerstone Charter Comes Up Short

Cornerstone Charter lost against College Prep & Leadership Academy back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Cornerstone Charter Cardinals were beaten by the College Prep & Leadership Academy Royals 65-31. The Cardinals were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-15.

Several Cardinals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kaylen Williamson, who posted six points and 12 rebounds. With that strong performance, Williamson is now averaging an impressive 8.1 boards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Maloree Walthaw, who put up eight points.

Even though they lost, Cornerstone Charter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive matchups.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead College Prep & Leadership Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than MacKenzie Dumbuya, who went 7 of 14 on her way to 20 points along with six assists and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Holmes, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 16 points and four steals.

Cornerstone Charter has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for College Prep & Leadership Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-4.

Cornerstone Charter didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 58-7 win against Winston-Salem Prep on the 9th. As for College Prep & Leadership Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 59-36 victory against Phoenix Academy on the 8th.
