Branson is 2-8 against Redwood since March of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Bulls will head out to take on the Giants at 4:30 p.m.
Things were looking good for Branson after they put the first run on the board on Saturday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Berean Christian by a score of 8-7. The Bulls have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Treyvor Mathews was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Tom Lardner was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Petaluma typically has all the answers at home, but on Saturday Redwood proved too difficult a challenge. They beat the Trojans by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 4-3. The Giants haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Matthew Knauer looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sam Gersch, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. TJ Beck also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Redwood's record now sits at 13-8-1. As for Branson, their loss dropped their record down to 8-13.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Branson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Redwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Branson couldn't quite finish off Redwood in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Bulls avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
