Mt. Blue is 1-9 against Skowhegan since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Cougars will host the River Hawks at 4:00 p.m. Skowhegan took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Mt. Blue, who comes in off a win.
Mt. Blue came out on top against Lewiston on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Cougars blew past the Blue Devils 7-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Cougars have posted against the Blue Devils since May 6, 2016.

Nolan Leso made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He is becoming a predictor of Mt. Blue's success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is 4-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Leso was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
In other batting news, Dane Cousineau was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Gage Decarolis, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Skowhegan and Hampden, and Hampden kept the tradition alive. The River Hawks fell 6-2 to the Broncos on Wednesday.
Skowhegan saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trevor Austin, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Mt. Blue pushed their record up to 6-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Skowhegan, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.
Mt. Blue came out on top in a nail-biter against Skowhegan in their previous matchup two weeks ago, sneaking past 5-4. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the River Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
