The Federal Way Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Decatur Golden Gators at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Federal Way is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Federal Way managed to slip by Jefferson the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Eagles lost 12-2 to the Raiders on Monday. The Eagles' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Orlando Young made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Decatur entered their tilt with Auburn Mountainview on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Lions. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Golden Gators have posted against the Lions since April 20, 2018.
Decatur's win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Spencer Holloway, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Eric Havili was another, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.
Decatur pushed their record up to 15-1-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Federal Way, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Federal Way has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Decatur struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Federal Way came up short against Decatur in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 6-3. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
