The Chelsea Academy Knights can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They took down Fredericksburg Christian 62-46. With that victory, Chelsea Academy brought their scoring average up to 50.3 points per game.
Leading Chelsea Academy to victory were Evelyn Wingate and Cici Wingate. Wingate scored 17 points along with five rebounds and four steals, while Wingate scored 22 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wingate has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Greta Barvick, who scored two points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
When it comes to explaining why Fredericksburg Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Layna Thomas. Despite the final result, she scored 19 points along with three steals. Thomas is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Minnick, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Chelsea Academy's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-5. As for Fredericksburg Christian, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chelsea Academy will square off against The Covenant at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. The Covenant will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak. As for Fredericksburg Christian, Fredericksburg Christian and Christ Chapel Academy will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Christ Chapel Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Fredericksburg Christian in Virginia (Christ Chapel Academy is ranked 140th, while Fredericksburg Christian is ranked 314th).
