The Southeastern Local Trojans are taking a road trip to take on the Mechanicsburg Indians at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southeastern Local is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Southeastern Local is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Fairbanks just ended the team's 17-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 7-1 to the Panthers.
Southeastern Local saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Reese R Wells, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Mechanicsburg, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. Everything went their way against Triad on Wednesday as they made off with a 10-1 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Indians needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
Mylee DeLong made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avery McDowell, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Keelyn McGhee, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Mechanicsburg is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.2 runs over those games. As for Southeastern Local, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 11-1 and their overall record down to 17-3.
Mechanicsburg's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Southeastern Local hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .346. It's a different story for Mechanicsburg, though, as they've only averaged .233. Will they be able to contain Southeastern Local's hitters?
Southeastern Local took their victory against Mechanicsburg when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 8-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
