It was fun while it lasted, but Pender's undefeated season came to an end after eight games on Monday. They took a hard 61-45 fall against the Wayne Blue Devils. The Pendragons lost against the Blue Devils in their previous head to head back in December of 2019, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 74-10 score last time.
Several Pendragons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zander Welsh, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 15 points. Those 15 points gave Welsh a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Trevor Trimble, who posted 12 points.
Colson Nelsen continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Wayne, going 7 of 15 on his way to 25 points. The game was Nelsen's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jaxson Kneifl, who had 16 points.
Having lost for the first time this season, Pender fell to 8-1. As for Wayne, the win keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
Pender will welcome Oakland-Craig at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Pender has won three straight at home, while Oakland-Craig won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change. As for Wayne, they will venture away from home to square off against Lakeview at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Wayne knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Lakeview likes a good challenge.
