The Gatewood Gators can now show off 13 landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They breezed by Piedmont Academy on the road to the tune of 84-52. Winning may never get old, but Gatewood sure is getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Matt Allen was his usual excellent self, shooting 11-for-20 from long range and almost dropping a double-double on 47 points and nine steals. Allen is crushing the point category: he's posted at least 19 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Blake Callaway, who scored eight points along with 16 rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Piedmont Academy had strong showings from Corbett Crews, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds, and Camden Moss, who scored 12 points. Crews hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for five straight games.
Gatewood is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-2 record this season. As for Piedmont Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-20.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gatewood will take on the Cavaliers at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Augusta Prep Day will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. As for Piedmont Academy, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Buccaneers at 2:30 p.m. on February 3rd.
