Monacan barely beat Richmond High School for the Arts the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Chiefs put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 21-1 win on Thursday. The Chiefs have beaten the Bulldogs the last seven times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bulldogs has come to flipping the script.
Emori Burns and Caryline Hugenberg were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Burns pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Hugenberg pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Burns got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while Hugenberg went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one stolen base. Those two runs gave Burns a new career-high.

In other batting news, Katelyn Marshall was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, five RBI, and one triple. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was J'Ael Lewis, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Monacan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .778. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, James River Midlothian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-11 heartbreaker at the hands of L.C. Bird. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Hailey Metacarpa made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Avery Absher was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double.
James River Midlothian's loss dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Monacan, their victory bumped their record up to 3-10.
Monacan took their win against James River Midlothian when the teams last played last Tuesday by a conclusive 21-12 score. Will the Chiefs repeat their success, or do the Rapids have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
