Dundee-Crown is 6-1 against Grayslake Central since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Chargers will venture away from home to square off against the Rams at 10:00 a.m. Dundee-Crown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Dundee-Crown had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Wauconda on Thursday. The Chargers blew past the Bulldogs 7-1. The Chargers not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 3rd (when they won 14-4).
Reese Westland tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jordyn Jeffs, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Abigail Hsu was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Dundee-Crown was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Grayslake Central, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They put the hurt on Wauconda with a sharp 9-2 win on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won three in a row.
Ann Wolff made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. Wolff was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Danielle Eckenstahler was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Cameron Marshall, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Dundee-Crown's record is now 10-20. As for Grayslake Central, their record now sits at 13-14.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Dundee-Crown hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. However, it's not like Grayslake Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .368. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Dundee-Crown beat Grayslake Central 15-10 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chargers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
