The Gorton Wolves will venture away from home to face off against the Monroe-Woodbury Crusaders at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Gorton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Gorton managed to slip by Roosevelt the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Wolves came up short against the Sharks on Monday, falling 8-2. The match marked the Wolves' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Gorton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaeden Torres, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Julius Vargas was another, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Monroe-Woodbury waltzed into their game on Monday with five straight wins... but they left with six. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Tigers a 9-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Crusaders, who have now won six matches by eight runs or more so far this season.
Not much got past Braeden Burke, who gave up just five hits and racked up six Ks to keep Kingston off the board.
On the hitting side, Mason Diltz was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Post, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
Monroe-Woodbury's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Gorton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-3-2.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Gorton has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438. However, it's not like Monroe-Woodbury struggles in that department as they've averaged .486. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Gorton suffered a grim 20-0 defeat to Monroe-Woodbury in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Wolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
