3A/2A Waccamaw recap Oct. 23, 2012
West Brunswick extended the longest winning streak in 3A/2A Waccamaw this week by beating West Bladen, 41-13. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
East Bladen led the league in scoring this week after putting up 48 points on South Brunswick.
The Knights' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Zack Wilcox threw for 173 yards and Malcolm Vaught had 108 yards receiving. On the ground Karon Shipman chipped in 50 yards. Kesean Sutton helped West Bladen's passing attack out by catching two balls for 39 yards.
West Bladen's Wilcox and Vaught have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Wilcox has thrown for 1354 yards this season, while Vaught has 67 catches for 829 yards. West Brunswick's Khalil Gause leads the league in rushing yards with 955.
Jimmy Fletcher's team's Gause needs only 45 yards against South Columbus next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
Two of the top units in 3A/2A Waccamaw will face off this week when the Trojans take on the Stallions. West Brunswick's offense has recorded 248 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while South Columbus has permitted only 136 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Eagles take on North Brunswick. East Bladen is currently in second, while the Scorpions are in third.
Jake Fonvielle's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,604 from 3,730. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 41-0 victory over Whiteville last week.
