The Brandon Academy Scorpions posted their biggest victory since December 8, 2023 on Friday. They blew past Canterbury 62-42. With Brandon Academy ahead 35-12 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Brandon Academy was led to victory by Shavon Birch and Jeremiah McNeely. Birch dropped a double-double on 14 points and 16 rebounds, while McNeely dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. Birch has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times he's played. Will Hawes was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, Canterbury saw an underclassman step up: Kayden Calhoun scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Jaylen Thomas, who scored six points along with four steals.
Brandon Academy pushed their record up to 6-10 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 52.33 points. As for Canterbury, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11.
Brandon Academy's road trip will continue as they head out to face Tampa Prep at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Tampa Prep is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Canterbury, they will play host again and welcome Pinellas Park, where tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (Pinellas Park is ranked 674th, while Canterbury is ranked 683rd).
