The Meridian Yellowjackets were the 72-47 winner over the Cornerstone Christian Academy Crusaders when they last played one another back in November of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Meridian fell 64-52 to Cornerstone Christian Academy on Tuesday. Meridian's loss keeps them winless this season.
Despite the loss, Meridian saw an underclassman step up: Josh Nunez scored 16 points along with 6 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Guillermo Ortiz, who scored 5 points along with 5 assists and 3 steals.
Cornerstone Christian Academy was led to victory by Carson Jones and Nate Tompkins. Jones scored 18 points along with 7 assists and 6 steals, while Tompkins scored 26 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Tompkins has scored at least 25% of Cornerstone Christian Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Carter Jones, who scored 9 points along with 11 rebounds.
Meridian's loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 0-3. As for Cornerstone Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 1-2.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Santo the next time they take the court. Meridian will head out to face Santo at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, while Cornerstone Christian Academy will head out to face them at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
